Scottland FC Close In on Premier League Title After Crucial Win

Castle Lager Premier League log leaders Scottland FC moved a step closer to securing the title in their maiden top-flight season after edging fellow contenders MWOS FC in a tightly contested encounter at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The victory saw Scottland extend their lead at the top of the table to six points after second-placed and defending champions Simba Bhora FC suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Ngezi Platinum.

A solitary strike from Knowledge Musona was enough to seal all three points for the flamboyant Mabvuku-based side, keeping their title charge firmly on track.

Scottland head coach Tonderai Ndiraya who guided Simba Bhora to the championship last season was ecstatic with the result, acknowledging that his team now has one hand on the trophy with just three matches remaining. He credited both his players and the club’s president for their commitment and investment.

“It was very important that we won the game, and the quality in our team played a big role in where we are today. Credit goes to our club President, Honorable Scott Sakupwanya, for the investment in this team. We really have quality, and that investment has pushed us this far.

I think we can agree that it’s now firmly in our hands with only three games to go. I’m very happy with how the team managed the game today,” said Ndiraya.

MWOS FC coach Lloyd Mutasa lamented his side’s failure to convert their chances despite dominating possession for most of the match. Although he conceded the title race, he remained optimistic about finishing the season strongly.

“We failed to score, and if you can’t score, it’s difficult to win matches. However, I would like to applaud my youngsters for the effort they put in. From the few chances we created, we just weren’t sharp enough.

We learn through such games and will give it our all in the remaining fixtures,” said Mutasa.

With Scottland’s win and Simba Bhora’s defeat, the big spenders now have full control of their destiny as they march toward what could be a historic title triumph.
